Vocal Lessons Beginners

We will work on singing techniques, breath control, diction, basic Turkish Makam theory (depends on student) and how to enlarge the range of the voice.

Vocal Lessons Advanced

You will develop vocal techniques, and you’ll gain a deeper understanding of improvisation techniques, intervals, modes, ornaments and stylistic features. I will motivate you in studying Classical Turkish Ottoman repertoire, to develop your vocal skills and creative thinking with approved methods of Makam Vocal Music.

About Duygu Alkan

I’m an experienced vocal teacher, Turkish music performer and conductor. Years of studies at the University of Ege and Codarts, as well as my career in Europe introduced me to the ethnically diverse environment. This fact gives awareness of the needs and interests of international students as well. Broad performing activities, advanced pedagogic training and vocal studies, deep research in the field of teaching Turkish Music vocal system and commitment to musical education prepared me to be an effective teacher.
I’m performing frequently at various international festivals and venues in the Middle Eastern and European Countries, including Saad Abdullah Palace Conference Hall (Iraq), Ahmet Adnan Saygun Concert Hall (Turkey), Izmir Atatürk Culture Centre (Turkey), Paradiso Amsterdam, Podium Mozaiek, Zuiderstrandtheater, Muziek Publiek Brussels, Theater Dakota, Newlands Festival, North Sea Round Town Festival, Operadagen Rotterdam and others.

I have recently released an album ‘My Garden’s Perennials’ in collaboration with the well-known Turkish master musicians Derya Turkan, Cenk Erdoğan, Coskun Karademir. This album consists of traditional lullabies from Asia Minor region performed in multiple languages. The album has been widely presented in Dutch, British, Turkish, Greek media. Since 2018 I am conducting two choirs with the repertoire of Classical (Ottoman) Turkish music in The Netherlands.
