Hi! I'm Gianfranco Mascayano, an Amsterdam based passionate professional guitarist and teacher. Looking for beginner lessons or rediscoverd your passion for guitar and wish to be able to play your favourite songs?  Want to learn how to improvise?

Jazz and Improvisation

I am specialised in jazz guitar and I think that improvisation, music theory and ear training are important tools for any musical genre; I am very excited to share the knowledge and material that I have accumulated through the years.

Styles and Genres

Since an early age, I have been passionate about playing a variety of genres. Although I am specialised in jazz and improvised music, I enjoy playing and teaching a wide range of styles reaching from Pop, Blues and Folk to Jazz, Funk, Hip-hop and Latin American styles.

Beginners - All Ages

You´ll learn the basic fingerings and foundation of the instrument while choosing to play repertoire from easy classical pieces, folk, pop, rock, blues or songs of your own choice. Other subjects include playing by ear, notation systems, strumming, finger exercises, plectrum, basic scales, basic music theory,

Step-By-Step

My step-by-step guitar lessons give you a solid foundation on the instrument that will help you with future musical adventures.

Advanced

For intermediate/advanced players, we tipically focus on topics and repertoire that you may suggest. I can help you to expand your technique, repertoire, advanced chord vocabulary, improvisation, effects, extended techniques. Plectrum, fingerstyles.

Cool Sounds!

You might want to learn to modify the guitar sound by using effects such as reverb, delay, distortion and many more exciting sound effects. Let's explore the use of different pedals both in hardware and software form!

Teaching Method and  Philosophy

When it comes to learning, we are all different, I do not make use of one fixed method. My goal is to create and customise a fun and individual study path for you, based on your personal aims. I'm a highly experienced guitar teacher and I m looking forward to showing you a fun and exciting way to explore the world of guitar and music.

Interactive Tools

For you maybe paper and pen works the best! But maybe we fin out that tools such as audio/video software/recording devices help you to practise and keeping a record of the lessons in a more effective way. I provide practice material such as play-along tracks and different types of musical notation.

I also offer fun, comprehensive and well structured online live lessons for beginners, intermediate and advanced players.

About Gian

Amsterdam based guitarist Gianfranco Mascayano was born in Chile and raised in Sweden from the age of 1. This gave him the opportunity to grow up surrounded by a sea of cultures and musical identities. Gian began playing Latin-American/classical guitar at an early age and soon gravitated towards Jazz. Since his teens, Gian has spent most of his time playing, touring and recording with bands and artists across geographical and musical borders. Gian received his Jazz Guitar Degree at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
