What to expect?
Fun in music comes first! We play duos, concert pieces, chamber/ochestra music, pop songs and some fun exercises. Learn to play legato, staccato, from pianissimo to fortissimo with a bright and warm sound. You will learn about breathing, posture and technique while playing your favourite music. Beginners will learn basic music theory and reading music.
Any music style you want to play is welcome. Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern music, World Music, Pop, Traditional music... No worries, I will guide you to find your own voice. Learning music is fun, and I am sure it will change your life!
Baroque flute - Traverso
If what moves you is baroque music and the sweet sounds of the baroque flute (Traverso) and you love composers like Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, or Telemann, let's enjoy and learn specific techniques, articulations and ornaments.
Over the years, organising student concerts has become a tradition I really look forward to. Once or twice per year, my students invite family members, friends, and colleagues and we all gather to play flute duos, trios, with piano or any other combination. We love sharing what we have all learned so far!
During the past months, I have also been able to adapt to the new situation we are all living in, so I can also teach you online. I have enough material and sound equipment to offer you the best sound quality from home. Just give it a try and you will be surprised!
I am Maria Cristina, a south Spanish freelance flutist based in Amsterdam for over 7 years. I have obtained my Bachelor's and Master's degree in Granada with Javier Castiblanque, and in the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, under the guidance of Vincent Cortvrint for flute and piccolo, Marten Root for historical flutes, and Kersten McCall for modern flute. My love for the historically informed performance made me specialise not only in modern flute, but also in early flutes (concretely flutes from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic period) and historical interpretation.
During this time, I have been fortunate to study in a city and in a conservatory where I have met a broad diversity of people, and where I have learned a huge variety of musical styles, from classical music to contemporary, early music, jazz, and world music. Dedicating my life to music has brought me to different parts of the world and has helped me to connect with people from different cultures and backgrounds, something that has opened my mind in many ways. Meanwhile, I have had the great honor to collaborate with world's top orchestras and ensembles such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (KCO), Philharmonie Zuid Nederland, Het Nieuw Ensemble, Metropole Orkest, Orkest van het Oosten, Nederlandse Bach Vereniging, Linos Ensemble and Ensemble Resonanz, among others.
