Piano Lessons All Ages - Levels

Hello! I'm Nikos Stavlas, a pianist and piano teacher based in Amsterdam. Alongside playing concerts in the Netherlands, Britain, Spain and elsewhere, I enjoy teaching the piano to students of all levels and ages. I teach the lessons in English, Spanish, Catalan and Greek!

Piano Lessons at your home in Amsterdam

I can travel within reasonable distance from central Amsterdam and also offer lessons on Zoom.

Lessons at your home in Delft

Mondays and Tuesdays, between 17.00 - 21.00 hours, I am available for piano lessons at your home in Delft

Beginners - Children - Adults

My motivating and fun piano beginner lessons are both for children as well as adults. I love to share my love for the piano with you and use modern methods, such as Piano Adventures and the European Piano Method to ensure you have fun and progress from your first piano lesson.

What can you expect?

You learn to read music, we work on fun exercises to get a good technique, posture, and hand independence, and we soon play beautiful classical and well-known pieces. Of course we play four hands on the piano! (Quatre mains)

Advanced

I have given masterclasses to advanced pianists and piano teachers in London for many years and enjoy working on your preferred music. Whether you want to improve your finger dexterity, your sound and balance, your pedalling, or expand your repertoire, I myself have a very extensive repertoire with beautiful and diverse pieces of music and etudes that, together with specific instructions and exercises, help you become an even better pianist.

Chamber Music and Piano

Chamber music has always been my passion and I regularly perform with instrumentalists and singers. I like to share my experience and you have come to the right place for coaching chamber music groups as well as piano duos.

ABRSM Exams

As I have lived in the UK for fifteen years, I have a lot of experience preparing students for the ABRSM exams, from Grade 1 to the Diplomas. Not everyone likes to do exams, and I don't find it necessary if you play the piano for fun, but they might give you a nice target to work towards!

Flexibility

I like to keep a flexible approach to timetables, especially with my adult students, as I know it can be tricky to always keep the same slot for every week if you have a busy work schedule.

About me

I'm a Greek/British pianist who trained at the Royal College of Music in London (Masters in Advanced Piano Performance with Distinction) and Goldsmiths, University of London (PhD in performance practice). I regularly perform solo and chamber music concerts in the Netherlands, UK, Spain and Greece, most importantly at the Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room in London and the Megaron concert hall in Athens. I have recorded a few albums of Catalan and South American songs with the soprano Patricia Caicedo, as well as solo piano works by Hans Jorn Brandenburg. I have taught piano and chamber music in adult education (Morley College, CityLit, and the Grittleton Chamber Music course) in the UK for many years and I have recently relocated to Amsterdam.
