Hello! My name is Emine Bostanci. Are you in love with Turkish folk music and wish to learn the Baglama? Looking for a smooth encounter with Anatolian folk music of Turkey? I offer comprehensive, encouraging and motivating Saz lessons for beginners, intermediate and advanced players.

Saz Lessons in Amsterdam

You will learn quickly and thoroughly the basics of playing this wonderful traditional instrument with best of modern education materials. In a short periode, you will enjoy performing traditional Turkish folk music pieces for your beloved ones! Come over for a trial lesson at my studio in Amsterdam! Lessons at your place are occasionally possible.

Lessons for Children

The saz is a fun and nice instrument for children to learn to make music on. Many parents find it important that their child gets lessons in Turkish. That is possible with me! Contact me for a trial lesson and inquire about the lower rates and shorter lesson duration for children.

Passion and Expertise

As an expert on World Music, I had considerable accumulation on Maqam, Folk and Soufi music. During my musical journey from Istanbul to the Netherlands, I have been aiming to be a cultural ambassador. Here I am, I would love to share my passion, accumulation and expertise with you!

Beginners

Learning and exploring a new insturment or a music genre is always fun! With my method of teaching, you will feel yourself on a smooth and inspiring journey. During the beginner lessons, modern education methods will be used based on my 10 years of teaching experiences. Lessons also may cover reading music, basic non-Western rhythms and basic maqam theory.

Advanced

For the intermediate and advanced students we will go through styles or a specific style that you would like to explore more. Discover more about traditional ornaments, various finger styles, bow and plectrum techniques, improvisation, repertoire and theory. You will learn more wonderful Türküs, how to perform as a soloist and as a band member. And no worries, I will be always your duet!

About Emine

Emine is performer, composer, improviser and academician originally from the Istanbul, Turkey. She graduated top of her class from YTU, the Department of Music and Performing Arts in Istanbul. She graduated with her MA studies at Codarts, University of Arts Rotterdam with 10|10. Currently, she is a PhD researcher in Cultural Musicology department at University of Amsterdam.

She was awarded the First Prize at the Young Instrumentalists Competition held in memory of Tanburi Cemil Bey at the 100th anniversary of his death by Turkish Ministry of Culture.
Emine participated as a young soloist for the Presidential Classical Turkish Music Choir in May 2019.

She performed at international festivals and venues such as the Royal Concertgebouw, CARRE Amsterdam, Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, De Doelen, Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, TivoliVredenburg, Zuiderstrandtheater, Bimhuis, Cemal Resit Rey Concert Hall, Isola di San Giorgio Maggiore, Festival Rencontres des Cinemas D'europe, Newlands Festival, Medfest, Festival Anywhere the Wind Blows, Sharq Taronalari International Music Festival and Old Roots & New Routes Festival, Injazz Fesitval, Amsterdam Roots Festival.
Emine collaborated with amazing artists as Kudsi Erguner, Martin Fonds, Derya Turkan, Bart Schneemann, Julian Schneemann, Sokratis Sinopoulos, Eric van der Westen, Johan van der Linden, Wilmar de Visser, Alex Simu, Sjahin During and Orville Breeveld.
