Greetings fellow music lovers! I am Alexander Baboian, all round guitarist, guitar teacher and composer from the US, newly relocated here to the Netherlands and offering private guitar lessons in my cosy living room in central Delft (near Oostpoort)

Passion for Jazz

My playing is deeply rooted in Jazz, so if you wish to learn to speak the musical language of legends like Jim Hall, Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell, George Benson, Pat Metheny, John Scofield, Bill Frisell, and Peter Bernstein you've certainly come to the right person.

Essential to All Styles

Having said that I take pride in being a versatile artist with broad experience and I like to prioritize the basics of guitar technique and musical concepts that are essential to all styles. It is often suggested to study with jazz teachers because we have a deep knowledge of music theory, precise technique, good reading ability, great ears, and our knowledge translates well to other styles, perhaps because Jazz and Blues were so influential in the history of American music.

What can you expect?

I've taught in the jazz department of Yerevan State Conservatory, so I'm at home dealing with all levels of guitar technique, reading music notation, repertoire, music theory, improvisation, accompaniment, rhythm and so on. Having said that I've also worked at music academies, arts centers and international schools with beginners and students who just want to strum a few chords to their favorite songs.

Music Technology

I'm also quite knowledgeable about music technology such as synthesizers, audio interfaces, PA systems, effects pedals, midi, DAWs and more.

Whether you come from a background in Jazz, classic rock, folk, pop, blues, soul, R&B or are at the beginning of your musical journey: if you'd like to discover new things about the possibilities of the guitar, demystify the fretboard, deepen your knowledge of music theory, build confidence in your technique and expand your repertoire of songs, I'm confident I can be a good mentor for you.

Guitar Lessons at Your Home

If preferred I can come to you and give the lessons in the comfort of your location in Delft or nearby areas..( Ypenburg, Nootdorp, Pijnacker, Rijswijk). You are flexible with the Strippenkaart of 5 or 10 lessons.

About Me

I was born and raised in the US but have been living the expat life for quite a while (also in Armenia, Germany and Belgium) and I'm excited to be opening this chapter of my life and career in this lovely country having absorbed many experiences both on and off stage and in and out of the classroom which I hope will give me some unique perspectives as I may guide you on your musical journey.I did my bachelor's in guitar performance at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston where I specialized in Guitar Performance. I also hold master's degrees from Yerevan State Conservatory and Royal Conservatoire Antwerp where I specialized in Composition and Electronic music. I've performed at major festivals such as the Washington DC Jazz Festival, Boston Beantown Jazz Festival, JEN Jazz Conference and Morgenland Festival Osnabruck as well as venues such as Bimhuis Amsterdam, and A-Trane Berlin, Scullers Boston, Music Village Brussels, Hotclub Gent.
