Hello! I am Gaspar Polo. Have you always wanted to compose your own music or arrange a piece you like for a specific ensemble, but you never quite know how to start? Having a new song in your head but no clue how to write it down?  Want to know more about the grammar of music, Music Theory ? Of course you do ! It is fascinating!

Arranging and Composing

In addition to flute lessons, (i'm a professional flutist) I also offer in-depth lessons about the backgrounds of music. My creative music theory and composition lessons give you a tool kit for arranging and composing your own music.

Music History

If you want to learn more about the history of music, we can focus on whatever time period you're interested in, from the Middle Ages until our days. We'll investigate how the social and political situation of the time influenced the arts, and how the fine arts and literature are related to the music of the time.

What makes the difference?

Every composition, whether a classical piece, a solo concerto, an improvised jazz solo or a pop song, has a certain structure. At least it should have to be great! Melody, harmony, rhythm and also lyrics are the building blocks that help determine whether a song becomes a hit or a flop!

Analysis

Musical analysis allows us to discover melodic, rhythmic and harmonic structures and shows the musical elements on which a composition is built. Very useful when you play a musical instrument, as you will not only be able to play the piece, but to really convey its meaning.

Online or in person Music Theory

Zoom or Skype lessons can work great! I will share my iPad screen with you and we work on it as on a sort of blackboard. In person music theory lessons offer information about chords, harmony, rhythmical, melodical and harmonical structures, Circle of Fifths etc.

Basso continuo

Are you in love with the music from the baroque and classical eras? Then I'm sure you'll find basso continuo fascinating! If you own a keyboard instrument, you will learn to improvise three voices on just one bass linewith numbers on it.

Improvisation

If you play a melodic instrument, I'll show you how you can improvise and create your own preludes by writing the perfect bass line. ( Passacaglia and Ciaccona). We'll analyse how 18th century pieces were written by following certain patterns that reappear again and again, from Corelli until Beethoven, so you learn and can apply the masters' tricks yourself !

Preparation for Auditions

Are you preparing a bachelor or master audition to a Dutch or foreign conservatory?  Feeling unprepared for the theory part of your entrance exam? We can work on ear training, melodic and rhythmic solfege, intervals and chords, analysis.

Lessons at your Home

We can do the lessons in the comfort of your own home in Delft, Delfgauw, Ypenburg, Rijswijk, Den Haag, Pijnacker or Nootdorp. Good for you and no problem for me!

About Gaspar

Eduardo Gaspar Polo Baader is a young Spanish flutist and composer. He studied in the Conservatorio Profesional de Salamanca in Spain, where he obtained a thorough training in harmony, analysis, andcomposition, under the guidance of Miguel Villanueva Hering. After obtaining his bachelor degree in modern flute at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Tilburg, he is currently finishing his master studies at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag, where he is specialising in the music of the 18th and early 19th centuries on historical instruments.
