Expert on Traverso
I’m Gaspar Polo, professional flutist and passionate flute teacher in Delft. Since I am absolutely in love with baroque and renaissance music, I have specialised in the performance on historical instruments and gained international experience both on historical and modern flutes.
All Levels
Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced flute player, experiencing the possibilities of the traverso and historical knowledge will transform the understanding of the 18th Century repertoire you already play, or you want to play. It's fun!
What is a Traverso?
The traverso, also called the baroque flute, became an extremely popular instrument in the 18th Century. Made of wood or ivory, they had one key, and, most of them, four parts. It's charming sound has enchanted several generations since it was brought back to life by the Early Music movement.
All Styles
Do you love French, German or Italian baroque music and wish to play this wonderful music on a period instrument yourself? Wish to develop a deeper understanding of historical and esthetic context of the pieces?
A new Experience
Discover a world of specific fingerings, ornamentation, improvisation, musical gesture and phrasing. We'll work on articulation, breathing, posture, dynamics and emotional and dramatic aspects of the music. Sign up for a trial lesson if you are curious!
Facsimile
You’ll learn to play the historical flutes by using the old books about performance and interpretation. You will mostly perform the music from facsimile (copies of old musical printings and editions). A journey in time! Inspiring and challenging.
Historical Replicas
The use of historical replicas allows us to become closer to the idea about the flute that composers like Johann Sebastian Bach, or even Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart had.
Duos
Most of the historical material to learn how to play the flute has a very special practical side: the duos! Duos are a wonderful way of learning that was very well known and cherished by the old flute masters, who composed them with love and art.

About Gaspar
Eduardo Gaspar Polo Baader is a young Spanish flutist. After graduating in modern flute at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Tilburg, he decided to pursue his love for historical flutes by studying a master's degree at the Early Music department of the Royal Conservatory of the Hague, under the guidance of Kate Clark and Wilbert Hazelzet. He has also received lessons and masterclasses from world-renowned Early Music performers such as Erik Bosgraaf, Richard Egarr, Pavlo Beznosiuk, Kati Debretzeni or Ryo Terakado.
Gaspar is an experienced chamber musician, and has played with diverse ensembles in such venues as the Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, the Concertzaal Theaters Tilburg, the Oude Kerk and the Nieuwe Kerk in Delft, the Cathedral of Salamanca (Spain), and many others. He is very active with his ensemble Celeritas, with which he explores baroque repertoire for traverso and violin with and without basso continuo.
