Hello, I am Francisca Portugal,  1st violinist Residentie orkest and violin teacher in The Hague. My lessons offer everything you need to develop your skills and musicianship , while enjoying the most beautiful repertoire! If you have a passion for music and the violin and also want to practise seriously, I'm sure you will achieve your musical goals!

Violin Lessons for Children

I vividly recall the moment I saw a violin for the first time, my initial lesson, my first teacher, and even my first concert. I cherish many happy memories about my first contact with music! While teaching your child, my only wish is to make their lessons as memorable as mine were.

Playful and instructive

We will play fun games, classical and popular tunes, easy etudes and violin duets, explore how the instrument works, train the ear, and take the first steps in learning how to read music. Fun in music comes in first place!

Beginners - All Ages

Learning the violin doesn't necessarily mean aspiring to become a professional. There are many ways in which music can fulfill your needs, without becoming overly serious. It all depends on your desires.

Intermediate - Advanced

Maybe you've played the violin a long time ago and are now looking for a patient and inspiring teacher? Need some motivation, effective exercises and advice to get back in shape again? Experienced violinist and looking for new repertoire? Seeking ways to improve your intonation, tone quality, playing in higher positions, vibrato or bowing technique?

Trial Lesson

During the trial lesson we discuss your goals and wishes, availability, musical preferences and the lesson location. Of course I'd love to hear you play and you'll get a glimpse of my teaching style.

Orchestra

In addition to solo repertoire, I am enthusiastic about working on orchestral excerpts, and audition preparation. I have many useful tips and tricks for you and I'm sure it will help you playing the most difficult passages without any stress!

Location

I give the lessons at my home in Valkenbos/ Regentessekwartier or at Amare Theater in The Hague center. If you prefer online lessons, we have many options.

About Me

Francisca Portugal, a sought-after Portuguese violinist, is renowned for her multifaceted expertise in both chamber and orchestral music. She graduated at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and obtained her Bachelor's and Master's degrees under the guidance of Concertgebouw's Concertmaster and pedagogue Liviu Prunaru.
Currently holding a position as 1st violin with the Residentie Orkest (Den Haag), Francisca's work has also led her to collaborate with the Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest, Portuguese Chamber Orchestra, Orquestra XXI, Ensemble MPMP, Rotterdam Philharmonisch Orkest, among others.
Alongside her orchestral engagements, she forms the duo Grimm Duette with violinist Natalie Kulina, earning them a spot in the finals of the Grachtenfestival Conservatorium Concours, where they present their original works and arrangements.
Francisca's musicianship has been recognised through numerous national and international competition prices. As a soloist, she has shared the stage with various orchestras and performed on National TV and Radio Antena 2 in Lisbon, Canal Porto in Oporto, and Concertzender Actueel in Utrecht.
