Hi! I'm Jean-Baptiste Schwebel. All round French (Paris) cellist and cello teacher in Rotterdam. I recently moved from Munich, Germany, where I lived, taught and performed in many concerts for 15 years, to the exciting city of Rotterdam. A wonderful place where I'm happy to share my love for music, and cello in particular! The cello lessons can be held 'en Français', 'auf Deutsch' and in the English language.

Trial Lesson

You are welcome at my wonderful music studio in Rotterdam Blijdorp. During the trial lesson we have a chat about your favourite music styles, the lesson times and prices, and discuss your goals and wishes. Of course playing is part of the trial lesson and you get an impression of my teaching style.

Chamber Music / Orchestra

Difficult orchestral parts can really spoil your enjoyment during your rehearsals. I give you many technical tools to effortlessly play the most difficult passages in your orchestra. I will help you figure out how to practice effectively and give you advice on bowings and fingerings based on my extensive experience as a performing cellist.

About me

I started the cello very young, at the age of 3. When I was 18, I went to Paris to study, and at the age of 23, after my cello and chamber music graduation, I moved to Munich, where I gathered a solid experience as an orchestra and chamber music musician. I studied with the great teacher and cellist Michel Strauss at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP), and chamber music with other renowned professors.

During my studies, I became a member of the Gustav Mahler youth orchestra, with which I had the chance to go twice on tour with the great Claudio Abbado,
After my graduation, in 2007, I got a scholarship to be academist in the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (Symphonieorchester des bayerischen Rundfunks). During two golden years, I can say I really learned what is to be an orchestra musician, at that time under the baton of principal conductor Mariss Jansons.

After my studies I played in the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Chrtistian Thielemann, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, and the Bayerische Staatsoper, under the baton of Kent Nagano. I've toured with amazing artists like Janine Jansen, Christian Zimmermann, Truls Mork, Yoyo Ma, Martha Argerich, Lang Lang
During my time in Munich, I was coach at the Munich Youth Orchestra, I taught orchestral repertoire to teenagers.
