Violin Lessons in Rotterdam - Classical - Jazz - Tango

Hey there! I'm Gustavo Cabrera, an Argentinean/American violinist and composer. I was born in the U.S. where I studied jazz before living many years in Buenos Aires where I studied tango and worked in different tango and classical orchestras. I received my bachelor's degree cum laude in violin at Codarts Rotterdam Conservatory and later a master's in composition. I've also toured with the Metropole Orkest and have recently recorded an album with Yamandu Costa which will be released in 2025 with the Orquestra Assintomatica of Lisbon, Portugal.

Jazz Violin - Improvisation

Have you ever heard Stephane Grappelli or Jean- Luc Ponty perform their brilliant virtuosity and experienced their moving melodical taste? I got inspired by their way of playing and specialised in jazz improvisation. Curious to learn this yourself? I'd love to share my passion and expertise with you! The lessons cover jazz harmony, repertoire, improvising on chord charts, pentatonic scales, harmonics, playing in all positions and specific effects for tango.

Tango

Are you fascinated by the famous musicians who interpret tango music so romantically, passionately and freely and wish to explore how you can learn to do the same? Having played with great tango masters in Argentina, I got to learn the rich tradition in a practical way. Discover the characteristics of playing the violin in tango music and develop a deeper understanding of the rhythmic and melodic aspects of this genre.

Where to find Me

Find me in my home studio, which includes a few different instruments and recording equipment. It's located near the historic part of Delfshaven in Rotterdam, for in-person violin sessions.

Online Violin Lessons

I also offer online lessons which includes learning how to setup a good audio on your computer to have a comfortable live feedback and instruction. We can have fun from the comfort of your own home!
