Hello, I'm Samuel Kiel, a professional bass player in Amsterdam. Next to performing in various bands and settings I'm passionate about teaching the coolest instrument ever: the bass guitar!

Are you starting with bass guitar lessons for the first time and looking for an enthusiastic bass teacher in Amsterdam? Acoustic bass player and curious to try electric bass? My lessons are a perfect way to explore pop, funk, blues, metal, traditional jazz or free jazz.

Trial Lesson

Whether you are just starting out with bass or have a lot of experience, play in a band, and want to take your playing to the next level: I think the trial lesson is the perfect way to get acquainted, go over everything, hear you play, and perhaps even schedule your first lessons! I have a bass ready for you if you don't have an instrument yet.

Is Electric Bass difficult to learn?

One of the advantages of the bass guitar is that you don't have to spend years learning to play your first grooves. In no time at all, you will be producing a great sound and adding bass lines to your favorite songs.

Get inspired!

To get an idea of my inspirations, or maybe to introduce you to some bass players, here are some of my heroes: James Jamerson and Bernard Reed because of their groundbreaking and groovy basslines, Pino Palladino, because of his chill ability to just lay down the beat and Jaco Pastorius, because of his insane virtuosity and groove on the bass

Scales - Chords - Improvisation

If jazz and other improvised music is your stuff, the pentatonic scale is a wonderful tool to develop your improvisation skills! Reading chord charts, jazz harmony and sheet music is part of the lessons. I'll make sure you'll apply music theory in a musical way, so it goes from theory into practice. 

Slap Bass - Funk!

We will work on how to make the groove swing! Electric bass plays a key role in the Motown and funk history. Listen to 'cats' like James Jamerson, Paul Jackson, Bootsy Collins, Stuart Zender and Larry Graham. My lessons offer all advanced techniques you may be looking for!

About me

I am from Denmark and have my bachelor's degree from the Royal Academy of Music in Denmark and my master's degree from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Besides performing regularly with different bands, I am the leader of my own group Sonic Choir of Love, where we combine jazz and indie rock. Our debut album is coming out this fall!
