Hello! I’m William Becuwe, a professional trombonist and passionate trombone teacher in Amsterdam. I offer inspiring, relaxed and motivating trombone lessons to children, teenagers and adults.

My goal is simple: To help you build a strong foundation on the trombone while developing your own musical voice, with pleasure, curiosity and confidence.

Beginners

We’ll work on breathing, posture, embouchure, sound production and basic technique. You’ll learn how to read music, understand basic theory and set up a healthy daily practice routine.

Your favourite playlist

We use the music you fancy most to develop your skills. This keeps you motivated and helps you progress quickly. Jazz, Soul, Funk, salsa, pop, classical and more!

Daily Practice

The trombone is a powerful and expressive instrument and it requires solid fundamentals. The lessons always start with simple but efficient warming up exercises focusing on tone quality, articulation, legato, flexibility, range, slide technique and air support, helping you develop a relaxed and efficient way of playing that serves the music.

Trombone for Children

For younger students, I offer fun and engaging trombone lessons using playful exercises and simple tunes. Children learn proper technique and music reading in a positive and encouraging way, while discovering the joy of making music on their favourite tunes. The ultra light weight pBone trombone is an excellent instrument to start with.

Advanced

Lessons focus on improvisation, rhythm, phrasing and musical identity. We explore jazz, soul, funk, hip-hop, salsa and many more styles through listening, transcription, play-along, and repertoire. We also dive deeper into harmony, chords, and scales, always connected to real musical situations.

Improvisation – Theory – Ear Training

To improvise freely and musically, I integrate music theory, ear training, rhythm work and basic piano concepts into the lessons. We work with tools like the Real Book, pentatonic scales, blues language and modal playing, helping you focus less on thinking and more on sound, groove and expression.

Next level solos

We can go from how to build simple solos with the basics or in a more conceptual approach, to more advanced theory, playing with upper structures and all kind of scales and modes, solos analysis of your favourite trombone players and build your own vocabulary around it.

Composition – From Ideas to Music

I also offer composition lessons, open to musicians of all levels. You don’t need a strong background in theory to start, curiosity and the desire to create music are just what you need. I have written music for film projects and composed and arranged pieces for orchestras, large ensembles, and small groups.

Trial Lesson

During a trial lesson, we’ll talk about your goals and experience, play together, and identify what you need to progress. Feel free to bring any piece or material you’re currently working on.

Lesson Packs (5 or 10 Lessons)

l offer lesson packs of 5 or 10 lessons, ideal if you want a regular and structured learning process. These packs help you stay consistent, set clear goals and make steady progress over time.

Lesson Location or Online

Lessons are available in my studio or at your place, depending on location. Online trombone and music theory lessons are also possible via Zoom or Discord.

About Me

I am an active trombonist combining live performance, music production and teaching. I graduated from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in jazz. Over the years, I have worked with various well-known artists, exploring many musical styles and performing on several international stages.
