Hello! I'm Pierre Jonker, a passionate guitarist and experienced guitar teacher in Utrecht Hoograven. I teach on all types of guitars and in various genres. These can be your own songs or those from your favourite playlist: jazz, pop, rock, metal, blues, folk, reggae, and hip-hop.

All Levels and Ages

Are you learning electric guitar for the first time and want to get it right the first time? Are you looking for guitar lessons for your child? Or have you been playing for years and want to improve your technique and improvisation skills?

Trial Lesson

A trial lesson is the perfect opportunity to get acquainted. You'll get a feel for my teaching style and we'll discuss things like lesson times, lesson plans, your guitar, your goals, and your favourite guitarists and music styles.

I draw my inspiration from listening to Steely Dan, Queen, Peter Bernstein, Jim Hall, and Metallica!

What can you expect?

Your music is the focus of the lesson, and using songs from your playlist, you'll work on good basic technique. You'll learn relaxed posture, pick handling, fingerstyle, chords, scales, reading music, and tabs.

Guitar lessons for children

With fun lesson materials, songs, and playful exercises, your child will learn to play guitar well. Especially if they practice regularly at home between lessons! Reading music or tabs is part of the lessons.

Where do I teach?

In my home studio in Hoograven, you'll receive lessons on acoustic or electric guitar, with free parking right outside. Lessons at your home are also possible, depending on the time and location.

Intermediate and advanced students

Finding improvisation difficult? Improvising is something you simply have to start doing. I'll provide you with lots of information and help you gain insight into jazz harmony, scales, and how to build a solo. Blues, jazz, or pop songs are ideal for developing your creativity.

How do we approach it?

We research and analyse how great guitarists build their solos and try to emulate them. You'll delve into various techniques like fingerstyle, pick, strumming, chord knowledge, improvisation, soloing, accompaniment, and songwriting.

Recording Yourself

Want to make your own recordings with something like Logic? I'll help you get started and teach you the basics. If you'd like to know more, we'll delve deeper! Curious? Book a trial lesson!

Pedals - Software, Hardware

With special effects via pedals, hardware, and software, you can dramatically influence the sound of your guitar. Cool! We'll experiment with fuzz, distortion, and much more.

About me

I studied guitar at the Utrecht Conservatory with Eef Alber.  I took lessons from Onno Kelk and Peter Bernstein. I play in various bands and regularly perform at festivals and concerts. Besides the Roseland Quartet, I play in the jazz duo PierreRoos and the jazz-rock band Steely Fan.
