About Trombone lessons
Is the Trombone a Slide Trumpet?
Many people recognise the trombone as a slide trumpet...nothing wrong with that, but...just call it a trombone then ;-))
Is the Trombone heavy to play?
Especially for children who want to learn to play the trombone, our professional teachers recommend the lightweight plastic trombone 'Pbone! This plastic trombone is much lighter, making it easier to handle and less fragile. You'll get that typical fat sound from your instrument in no time!
Back in Time
The trombone is a versatile instrument and can be used in all kinds of music. In the late Renaissance/early Baroque period, around 1600, the trombone was a widely played instrument. Instruments related to the trumpet existed in both Italy and Bohemia.
Banjoun and Zinc
The trumpet (the German word Posaune may be confusing) is the precursor to the trumpet. It's mentioned in the Old Testament (The Fall of Jericho) and refers to the ram's horn or shofar. The trombone from the Renaissance and early Baroque periods, is closely related. The Italian name cornetto refers directly to the ram's horn. And to ice cream, of course ;-)
High to Low
Just like in a choir, recorder and gamba consort instruments existed—soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. From small to almost unplayable! Nowadays, the trombone is often equipped with a quarter valve, which increases the range and makes playing speed somewhat easier. You usually play one of the lower parts or middle voices in a band or orchestra.
Is Trombone a Solo Instrument?
You can also play beautiful solos on a trombone. Do you enjoy playing jazz, classical, salsa, pop, or in a brass band? Good technique, stamina, and the ability to read music and/or improvise are essential!
Warm Sound
The trombone is characterised by its clear, warm sound. Together with your trombone teacher, you'll improve your breathing technique and learn a relaxed posture. You'll receive special exercises to train your embouchure and keep it in top condition.
What is the Meaning of the Word Trombone?
The word 'trombone' is derived from the Italian word 'tromba' which means 'trumpet', and 'one' which means 'big'. Together they formed the word 'trombone' which means 'big trumpet'.
How is the Trombone constructed?
The trombone's body includes a mouthpiece, first brace, second brace, slide, water key, tuning slide, and bell. Most brass instruments rely on valves to create varying pitches but the trombone relies on the slide. The slide replaces the valves in other brass instruments, which use valves to select tubing length. When you movs the slide out the note is lower and when you pull the slide toward you the note is higher.
Is the Trombone All Round?
Trombones are versatile instruments and are commonly found in jazz combos, bigbands, marching bands, and classical orchestras. They are also found in brass choirs, brass bands, military bands and often played in swing music, salsa music, R&B and merengue music.
Are ther different types of trombone?
There are different types of trombones including the bass trombone, the tenor trombone, the contrabass trombone, the soprano trombone, the treble cleff trombone, and the alto trombone. Want to try? Book a trial trombone lesson
