Classical Piano, Improvisation & Music Theory Lessons in Amsterdam

Classical piano training, creative musicianship and lessons tailored to your goals.

Whether you want to build a strong foundation in classical piano, prepare for a conservatory or Royal Academy entrance exam, develop your existing skills, or simply enjoy learning the piano, lessons are adapted to your level, goals and musical interests.

Professional piano lessons in English, Turkish and Dutch

For children, adults and advanced players

Hello, I’m Deniz, a conservatory-trained pianist, composer and music producer based in central Amsterdam. My teaching combines classical piano training with improvisation, music theory, ear training and a broader approach to musicianship. I want my students not only to learn pieces, but to understand music and become increasingly confident and independent at the instrument.

1. Classical & exam preparation

For students who want structured training, classical repertoire, technique, theory, Royal Academy and conservatory preparation. Lessons can include:

  • Classical repertoire
  • Piano technique and coordination
  • Musical interpretation
  • Sight-reading
  • Ear training
  • Music theory and harmony
  • Performance preparation
  • Effective practice techniques
  • Conservatory and Royal Academy entrance preparation

For students preparing for an entrance exam or audition, we can work towards the specific requirements of the programme you are applying to, including repertoire, technique, sight-reading, theory and performance. I can help you build a structured preparation plan around the specific requirements of your chosen programme.

2. Piano for enjoyment

Piano lessons don't have to be about exams or following a strict curriculum. If you simply want to learn piano, return to an instrument you played in the past, learn music you enjoy or discover what you can do with the instrument, we can build lessons around that.
Lessons can include:

  • Learn pieces from different musical styles
  • Play songs and melodies
  • Explore songwriting and composition
  • Understand chords
  • Learn to improvise
  • Play by ear
  • Learn to read music
  • Understand music theory
  • Explore different musical styles
  • Simply become more comfortable at the piano

There is no single right way to learn the piano. The lessons can be structured and goal-oriented while still leaving space for curiosity and enjoyment.

3. Developing pianists

For people who already play and want to take their playing further.
Perhaps you have been playing for several years and want to improve your technique, understand harmony better, become more confident with the instrument or move beyond simply playing the notes on the page.

Depending on your interests and level, we can work on:

  • Classical repertoire
  • Technique
  • Musical interpretation
  • Music theory and harmony
  • Improvisation
  • Playing by ear
  • Sight-reading
  • Composition
  • Developing your own musical ideas

The  aim is to help you become a more independent musician who understands what you are playing and why.

What Can You Expect From Your Lessons?

Every student is different, so there is no fixed formula for a lesson. The aim is not only to help you play better, but to help you understand what you are playing, practise independently and develop your own musical voice.
I generally aim to provide:

  • Clear and structured guidance
  • Repertoire suited to your level and interests
  • Practical music theory
  • Technical exercises where they are useful
  • Guidance on how to practise effectively
  • Feedback on your playing
  • Exercises to develop your ear and musical understanding
  • Space to explore and experiment

About Me

I am a conservatory-trained pianist, composer and music producer based in Amsterdam.
I began studying classical piano as a child and later studied music composition and production in Türkiye, followed by a Master’s degree in Sound Design in the Netherlands.
Alongside teaching, I work professionally as a musician and perform and release music under the name Loradeniz.
My professional work spans piano, composition, electronic music, sound design, DJing and live performance. I have performed internationally and at venues and festivals including Dekmantel, Concertgebouw and Bimhuis.
My own musical background influences the way I teach: I value the discipline and depth of classical piano training, while also encouraging students to listen, experiment, improvise and develop their own musical understanding.

Piano Lessons in Central Amsterdam

Lessons take place in my home studio in central Amsterdam, in the Jordaan area. Depending on availability and distance, I can also travel to your home.

Deniz helps my daughter to understand and appreciate music!

Deniz is an exceptionally meticulous teacher and teaches music with great care, patience, and attention to detail. Every concept is explained thoughtfully, ensuring a strong foundation rather than rushing through lessons. Her painstaking approach has helped my daughter not only improve technically but also start to truly understand and appreciate music! - Mishka

Deniz is an excellent teacher!

I started piano lessons with Deniz about four months ago. I had never studied music or experimented with an instrument before. Deniz is not only a great musician with extensive knowledge of the subject, but also an excellent teacher. With her patience and empathy, she creates a space where I feel safe to learn and experiment. I would definitely recommend the experience of taking lessons with her. In a short period of time, I have learned to play simple songs by reading directly from the sheet music and to improvise as well. I am very grateful to have met her. - Camilla

I highly recommend her!

Lora is not a teacher that will just give you information but will tell you why and how. I highly recommend her. - Mo

Best piano lesson I've ever had!

Admittedly, this was also the first lesson I've ever had - however it was every bit as good as I had hoped it would be. Starting at the ripe old age of 35 I was slightly concerned that I might be too old to start, but Deniz made the whole experience very easy to enjoy, and she adapted the lesson around the very little bits I was able to do, while filling in lots of information that I didn't know. Looking forward to carrying on my training and would highly recommend to anyone that's thinking of taking the plunge. - Mitch

Deniz is inspiring and passionate!

Deniz is a teacher who would put students at ease and make them eager to learn. She tailored the classes to my needs and connects musical knowledge to them naturally. After 3 classes I’ve already improved my confidence and started to build a system around piano. Deniz is inspiring and passionate, I’m very lucky to have her as my teacher! - Ybing W

Deniz is a very kind piano teacher!

We are very happy with Deniz’s lessons because she is very kind and patient with our girls and when they are struggling, she tries to make the lesson extra fun for them. - IIse

The perfect piano teacher for my child!

I truly believe that the most valuable thing a teacher can give a child is not just technique, but a genuine relationship with music. What I appreciate most is the way you teach piano with sincerity, calm authority, and real care. You don’t force learning, you guide it. You allow the child to build a natural connection with music, to understand it not just technically but emotionally as well. That was exactly what I wished for my child: to form an honest relationship with music, to feel it, and to understand its structure with curiosity rather than pressure. Seeing that happen has been incredibly meaningful for us. For all of this, thank you, sincerely. It’s rare to come across someone who teaches with such honesty, calm, and heart. - Mert
