Piano Lessons in The Hague – Learn to Play with Confidence
Hello! I’m Peter Drozd, a professional pianist and piano teacher in The Hague.
Why do I love teaching piano?
The wonderful pianist Vladimir Horowitz put it beautifully: "The piano is the easiest instrument to play in the beginning, and the hardest to master in the end."
Personal Approach
Whether your goal is to learn classical repertoire, improve your technique, understand music more deeply or simply enjoy playing the piano, we will find an approach that works for you.
Beginners
We build the foundations step by step: learning to read music, developing aural skills, discovering the keyboard and gradually becoming comfortable with playing. You don't need any previous experience to start learning the piano.
Piano lessons for children from age 6
Learning the piano should be fun, inspiring, and something a child can truly enjoy. Through musical games, creative exercises, and carefully chosen repertoire, I introduce children to the piano in a playful and encouraging way.
Why a Trial Lesson Is Important
If your child is just starting to learn the piano, a trial lesson is a fun and relaxed way to get acquainted and see if there’s a good connection. The same applies for you, or if your child has taken piano lessons before but has lost some motivation along the way. A different approach and music that better matches their interests can make all the difference!
Next steps
Along the way, we build a strong foundation in reading music, healthy posture, and relaxed, natural technique. Good habits from the beginning make learning easier, and allow your child to grow into a confident and independent musician.
More advanced pianists
Lessons can focus on repertoire, technique, interpretation, and, most importantly, learning how to practise effectively. I have developed my own approach to help students become more independent and confident, giving you the tools to solve musical and technical challenges for yourself.
Classical Repertoire
My main focus is classical music, particularly the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods. I enjoy teaching music by composers such as Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin and many others.
Other Styles
At the same time, lessons don't have to be limited to classical repertoire. Depending on your interests, we can also explore jazz, film music, pop and contemporary music.
Large Collection
I have a large collection of sheet music and teaching materials, from beginner pieces to more advanced repertoire. This means we can explore music that matches your level, interests, and musical taste, and always find something new to inspire you.
Understanding the Music
For me, learning a piece is about much more than playing the right notes. It’s about discovering what makes the music come alive: how it is built, how the different voices interact, what the composer might have had in mind, and how these discoveries can shape the way we play. The more you understand the music, the more freedom you have to make it your own.
Sight-Reading and Music Theory
Lessons can include sight-reading, music theory, aural skills and exercises designed to strengthen your understanding of music. These skills are always adapted to your level and integrated naturally into playing.
Piano Lessons in The Hague and Online
Lessons are available at my home in The Hague, at your home, or online. I teach in English, Dutch, Slovak and Czech.
About Me
I am a professional pianist, harpsichordist and music teacher based in The Hague. I studied classical piano with Peter Pažický in Bratislava and completed my piano studies in 2017. I later specialised in historical keyboard instruments at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague, where I studied harpsichord with Kathryn Cok and Carole Cerasi and basso continuo with Patrick Ayrton.
On stage
Alongside performing as a soloist, chamber player I am active as an accompanist for choirs, opera singers and orchestras.
My background in historical performance practice also influences my piano teaching. When appropriate, I draw on historical sources and on the methods used by earlier generations of musicians, including the books and teaching materials that the old masters themselves studied and passed on to their students.
Ready to Get Started?
Your first lesson is all about getting to know each other. We’ll talk about what you’d like to learn, explore your current level, and discover what kind of music inspires you. Feel free to get in touch to book a trial lesson!
