Hello! My name is Vasilis. I am a performer and teacher specialising in traditional Greek and Turkish music, based in Utrecht. I play bouzouki, rebetiko and laïká guitar, lavta (an oud with saz frets), and I am also a singer. Over the past decade, I have taught and performed throughout Europe, sharing the rich musical traditions of the Eastern Mediterranean

My aim is to help you develop a practice routine that fits your life and keeps you making steady progress.

Music is about more than playing notes

You will develop your listening skills, deepen your understanding of the style, and learn how the music works from the inside. If you are interested, I will encourage you to start playing with others early on. We can attend jam sessions together, and I can help you find opportunities to perform or join an ensemble

Improvisation and Taksim

Improvisation is an essential part of Greek and Eastern Mediterranean music. From free-form taksim introductions to rhythmic solos within songs, I will guide you through clear and practical methods that help you develop your own musical voice. Even if improvisation feels intimidating at first, it quickly becomes one of the most enjoyable parts of the learning process

Whether you are a complete beginner, an intermediate player looking to deepen your understanding of the style, or an experienced musician searching for a new musical language, you are very welcome.

Lessons for Children

I have specialised in music education for children and have more than ten years of teaching experience with young musicians. I currently direct a children's ensemble focused on traditional Eastern Mediterranean music, where children learn through playing together, listening, and having fun.

Don't Have a Bouzouki Yet?

No problem! If you own a guitar, we can simply tune it like a bouzouki so you can start learning immediately. During your first lesson, you are welcome to try my instrument and explore whether you would like to purchase one yourself. We can also begin with singing, music theory, and listening exercises while you look for the right instrument.

Trial Lesson

Curious about the bouzouki but not sure where to start? A trial lesson is the perfect introduction. We will discuss your musical interests, explore some repertoire together, and start making music straight away, regardless of your experience.

Where do I teach?

Lessons are available in my studio in Utrecht city centre, in my home studio in Utrecht Kanaleneiland, or at your location by arrangement. For maximum flexibility, you can also choose a 5- or 10-lesson package.

About Me

Alongside teaching, I am active as a performer in several projects. I lead the jazz-rock bands Citrus Blossom and Nefala, perform with the Eastern Mediterranean ensembles Arda and Giannena, East Med Syndicate, and share a rebetiko duo with Stelios Ladopoulos. About me

I hold a Bachelor's and Master's degree from the HKU Conservatory and have been taught by many inspiring international teachers. From them, I learned one important principle above all: practicing should be fun, flexible, and your goals must be achievable.
