Hello! My name is Boldizsar Szollosi. I’m a Hungarian professional percussionist and teacher based in Wassenaar - Leiden area. I teach from a fully equipped percussion studio in Wassenaar, with access to a wide range of instruments including marimba, vibraphone, snare drum, timpani, African percussion and contemporary percussion.
Marimba - Vibraphone Lessons - all levels
Always wanted to play mallet instruments or discover percussion? Or already play and want to take your playing to the next level? Whether you’re a complete beginner on mallet instruments or already playing at a higher level, lessons are tailored to your goals and the music you enjoy. International students welcome!
Percussion Lessons for Children
All children are fascinated by percussion! In a playful way, we discover rhythm, timing, listening and reacting while exploring a wonderful world of instruments. Your child develops motor skills, a sense of rhythm and timing, and, most importantly, we have fun! Lessons are offered in both Hungarian and English. No waiting list, come and make some music!
More Than One Instrument
What I love about percussion is how broad it is. There are so many different instruments, techniques, rhythms and sounds to discover. A percussion lesson doesn't have to mean choosing one instrument and staying with it. Depending on your interests, we can explore marimba, Vibraphone and various other instruments and musical styles and discover what you enjoy most. This variety can be a great way to discover music. We can start with basic rhythm and technique and gradually explore different parts of the percussion world.
Marimba, Vibraphone & Mallet Instruments
Beginners start with two mallets, developing basic technique, coordination, rhythm, sound and musicality. You don't need any previous experience to start. Lessons include:
- scales
- chords
- triads, arpeggio's
- melodies
- technique
- dynamics, sound
- repertoire and reading music
For more experienced students, lessons focus on:
- technique,
- repertoire,
- four-mallet playing,
- score reading,
- contemporary percussion
- preparing for conservatoire entrance exams.
The lessons develop with you as your interests and abilities change.
Snare Drum
Snare drum is an important foundation for percussion because it allows us to focus on rhythm, timing, sound, dynamics and control. These skills are useful across many other percussion instruments, making snare drum a good starting point as well as an important part of developing as a percussionist.
African Percussion and Cajón
Explore African percussion, including instruments such as djembe and sabar. Lessons can focus on traditional rhythms, technique, sound and playing together with others. Like to play cajón? Let’s do it!
Contemporary & Multipercussion
We can work with multi-percussion setups, where several instruments are arranged around the player. This develops coordination, movement, concentration and independence while introducing many different sounds and playing techniques.
Orchestra - Classical Repertoire
I can also teach timpani and other orchestral percussion instruments, depending on your level and goals.
Different Musical Styles
The lessons can go beyond classical music. Enjoy contemporary music, pop and check out the different ways percussion can be used across these styles. Discover how to produce electronic music, combining synthesizers with acoustic percussion and mallet instruments.
