Enjoy Playing the Violin - Children and Adults

Hello! My name is Daniel Lee, and I teach violin in Amsterdam. I offer lessons for both children and adults. Whether you're a beginner or a long-time player, you're welcome to join a trial lesson.

Why a trial lesson?

There's always a lot to discuss before you take lessons. Think about lesson times, availability, lesson plans, and your music choices. Perhaps you don't have a violin yet? I'd be happy to help you find an instrument to rent or buy. You'll also get a feel for how I teach.

Exploring the violin as a beginner?

Regardless of your age, having fun while learning will help you learn to read music, master your technique, and develop your passion and love for music.

What are the lessons like?

I ensure my approach is always constructive. We use fun and targeted teaching materials so you can progress quickly, but always in a relaxed manner. As you play, you'll develop your left-hand technique and the correct position of your right hand and arm. This way, you'll discover how to create a beautiful sound from your violin!

Violin lessons for children

Most children love music and enjoy playing an instrument. That's why enjoyment of music is always paramount during lessons. I approach violin playing playfully, and we use fun and modern teaching materials so your child is motivated to practise regularly at home and excited to come to lessons.

Will my child learn to read music?

Yes, your child will learn to read music, but we start with holding the bow. We do this with fun games and exercises that train the dexterity of the right hand. We practise bowing in various rhythms so your child becomes accustomed to producing sound and holding the instrument. Along side, by plucking familiar songs (pizzicato), your child learns where and how to place the fingers on the strings

What can I expect if I already have more experience?

If you're more advanced, I'd be happy to pick up where you left off. You're welcome to ask specific questions, and we'll discuss in detail what you want to develop. This could include expanding your repertoire, improving your vibrato, bowing technique, intonation, and playing in positions.

Deepening

To develop your musicality, we'll look at historical context, syntax, and style, and you'll discover how to articulate, phrase, and play with dynamics in a clear and structured way. Learn to tell stories with the music you play.

Explore Multiple Styles

I have broad musical tastes and extensive experience with various music styles, from classical to pop.

Do you play in an orchestra or ensemble?

Bring your parts to lessons so I can advise you on fingering and bowing. Being well-prepared is the best way to play even the most difficult passages with ease!

Improvisation

If you'd like to delve deeper into improvisation on the violin, that's also an option!

Where do I teach?

I live and teach in Amsterdam. The studio where I teach is located in De Pijp, and I prefer to hold lessons there. If you prefer a different arrangement, we can also meet at your home or at my place on Zeeburgereiland.
