Violin Fun for all Ages and Levels
Hello! My name is Eriko Nagayama, and I am a violinist and experienced violin teacher based in The Hague. I specialise in both modern and historical violins. Whether you don’t yet have a violin, are just starting out, or are already an advanced player, you are warmly welcome in my studio. I have had the pleasure of teaching around 40 students of all ages—from very young children to adults—always with warmth, care, and dedication.
Advanced
We will work on both musicality and technique. Musicality begins with your imagination and the way you shape your sound world through your instrument, which in turn guides the technical work. I will guide you from fundamental technique to small—but essential—tips for a wide range of situations on the violin.
Historically Informed Performance
I am passionate about early music and enjoy teaching the violin through a historical lens, which is my area of specialisation. We will explore how composers would have imagined their sound world in their own era. If you would like to explore Baroque, Classical, or Romantic styles and learn more about historically informed performance practice, period bow techniques, and new repertoire, I would be delighted to help.
Beginners and Children
I grew up with the Suzuki violin books, and those beautiful pieces still live in my heart. All beginners are most welcome to explore and discover the violin! I generally follow the books, but I am happy to tailor my lessons to individual needs and preferences.
Trial Lesson
You are very welcome to get acquainted and discuss your goals and wishes during a trial lesson. If you do not yet have a violin, I am happy to advise you on where to rent or buy one.
Cosy Home Studio
My studio is in Voorburg Mariahoeve area. Depending on the distance to your location, lessons at your home in The Hague/Wassenaar area are also possible.
About Me
A few years ago, I moved to the Netherlands to further pursue my passion for early music. I recently completed my second master’s degree at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, where I graduated with distinction. In addition to teaching, I work as a freelance violinist and perform regularly as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player. My musical interests are wide-ranging and include contemporary music and collaborations with traditional Japanese instruments. I look forward to sharing my love for music with you!
