Traverso Specialist in Delft and The Hague
Hello! I'm Anežka Drozdová, a professional flautist and passionate Baroque flute and traverso teacher in Delft and The Hague. Because I'm passionate about "early music," I've specialized in performing Baroque and Renaissance music on historical instruments. If you'd like to learn more about this, you've come to the right place!
What is a Traverso?
The traverso, also known as the Baroque flute, became a very popular instrument in the 18th century. Made of wood or ivory, the traverso has a single key, and most flutes consist of four parts. The charming sound of the traverso has captivated generations and has made a major comeback since it was revived by the Early Music movement.
In love with early music?
If you simply love the sound and want to start playing the traverso, but have no musical experience, the traverso is a beautiful instrument. You'll learn to read music in class, and we'll introduce you to the flute, breathing technique, and a general musical foundation. You'll soon be playing beautiful repertoire!
Beginners and Advanced
The flute lessons are also for advanced players and experienced transverse flutists who want to transition to the traverso flute and delve deeper into the beautiful repertoire.
French, German, or Italian Baroque music?
Wonderfully challenging and interesting to discover the different stylistic characteristics. You'll be motivated to play this beautiful music yourself on a historical instrument. Do you want to gain knowledge and develop insight into the historical and aesthetic context of the pieces?
Next Level
Once you're more experienced, you'll develop skills in using specific fingerings, ornamentation, and learning to improvise. Want to work on articulation, breathing, posture, dynamics, and the emotional and dramatic aspects of the music?
Vision and Experience
Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced flute player, experiencing the possibilities of the traverso flute and gaining historical knowledge will change your vision and experience of the 18th-century repertoire! Book a trial lesson if you're interested!
Facsimile
You'll learn to play historical flutes using old books on performance and interpretation. You'll primarily perform music from facsimiles (copies of old musical princesses and editions). A journey through time! Inspiring and challenging.
Historical Replicas
By using historical replicas, we can get closer to the ideas about the flute that composers like Johann Sebastian Bach and even Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart had.
Duos
Playing duos with me, or an acquaintance or friend you play with and who you'd like to bring to the lesson, is a wonderful way to learn the repertoire. A tried-and-true method beloved by the old flute masters, such as Joachim Quantz, the teacher of Prince Frederick II and a contemporary of Bach.
Want to try a modern transverse flute?
Of course, you can also take regular flute lessons with me in Delft and learn to play the most beautiful romantic melodies!
Location
The flute lessons take place in The Hague and can also be given at your home in Ypenburg, Rijswijk, Delfgauw and Delft
Ensembles
Ensembles are very welcome for fun and inspiring ensemble coaching sessions. Enjoying playing together and playing music are paramount.
About me
I am a Czech professional flutist on modern and historical flutes. I originally studied modern flute with Václav Kunt at the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno and obtained my MgA diploma in 2018 and a Ph.D. in September 2024.
My Passion
My passion for historical music brought me to the Netherlands to study with Kate Clark and Wilbert Hazelzet at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, where I received my master's degree in June 2025.
Concerts
I have performed regularly with leading Czech orchestras (such as the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, Czech Virtuosi, Virtuosi Brunnenses, Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc, and the Czech National Symphony Orchestra) and with various international ensembles specializing in historical performance practice (Bach Consort Nijkerk, Concerto d'Amsterdam, and Accademia Amsterdam).
Baroque Ensembles
I enjoy playing chamber music and am a co-founder of the ensembles Polychroma (traverso, Baroque violin, Baroque cello, and harpsichord), Ensemble de Cour (voice, traverso, and theorbo), and Filigree (a Renaissance flute consort).
What Teaching Means to Me
For me, teaching is simply passing on what I learned from my teachers: the joy of making music. I love the interaction and exchange with my students, and the challenges of helping everyone find their unique path to music.
