Hello, and thank you for your interest in my violin lessons! I'm Ann from Finland, a passionate violinist and dedicated teacher who loves sharing the joy of music with both beginning and advanced students.

Children and adults

Whether you're looking for a teacher for your child, want to learn to play the violin for the first time yourself, or want to take your playing to the next level, I'm happy to help you develop your musicality in a friendly and motivating environment.

Why a Trial Lesson?

This initial meeting is a great opportunity to get acquainted with my teaching style, try out the instrument, and discuss your goals, favourite music, and practical matters such as lesson times and location.

Don't have a violin yet?

No problem! You can use one of mine during the trial lesson. I'm also happy to advise you on renting or buying a violin that's right for you.

Teaching Philosophy

My lessons are focused on long-term musical growth and discovering your own connection with music.

Personalised Approach

I will motivate you or your child with fun teaching materials to develop expression, curiosity, and self-confidence. Each lesson is tailored to personal goals, interests, personality, and learning pace.

A Beginner's Guide for Young and Old

We focus on good posture and a relaxed playing style. The goal is to learn the basics of beautiful sound and train your ear with fun, simple songs and exercises. You'll also learn to read music and basic general music theory. Of course, we'll play pieces and duets together!

If you play regularly, in an ensemble or orchestra, and want to refine your playing, we will work on:

We use scales, etudes, and of course, beautiful music from the classical and popular repertoire.

Classical and Contemporary Music

My background is in classical music, with a focus on the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods. I also love the impressionist repertoire and enjoy playing works by contemporary composers. My favourite composers include Bach, Sibelius, Ysaÿe, Debussy, Elgar, Tchaikovsky, and Piazzolla.

Tango, World Music, and Pop

I specialised in Argentine tango and also have experience with Latin, pop, and folk traditions. I enjoy bringing these influences into my lessons, inspiring you to discover music with curiosity and an open mind.

Location

You are welcome in my cosy studio in Charlois, Rotterdam South. Home lessons are also possible.

I can arrange lessons at your home in areas such as Rotterdam City Center, Charlois, Katendrecht, Maashaven, Rijnhaven, Zuidplein, Feijenoord, Lombardijen, Zuidwijk, Vrijenburg, IJsselmonde, Barendrecht, Noordereiland, Pendrecht, Portland, and Ridderkerk.

About Me

I received my Master of Music from the Codarts Conservatory in Rotterdam. My violin studies began at the Oulu Conservatory and continued at the Helsinki Conservatory and the Porvoo Violin Academy in Finland.

Performing Musician

Besides teaching, I am an active performer throughout Europe. I have played with symphony orchestras such as the Hyvinkää Orchestra, served as concertmaster of Helsinki Concordia and the Rotterdam OTRA Orchestra, and performed in renowned concert halls such as De Doelen (Rotterdam), Theater Ludens (The Hague), and Splendor (Amsterdam).

Chamber Music

I am also a co-founder of The Cosmopolitan String Quartet and Zenanns Duo, with which I have further deepened my love of chamber music and ensemble playing.
