Hello! I am Katerina Papakostaki, a professional cellist performer and cello teacher in Utrecht. At the age of 6 I fell in love with the warm sound of the cello and my passion for music was born! Welcome to my fun and motivating cello lessons in Utrecht Overvecht.

Cello for Children

I love teaching children and my lessons offer a playful introduction to the cello for your child. We play together, do some singing, your kid learns to read music and the basics of music theory. All this in a relaxed approach in a cosy and motivating atmosphere. The kids learn to play both classical and popular tunes. We may use elements of the world famous Suzuki method.

Beginners - All Ages

Never too late to start playing the cello! With wonderful duets, effective exercises, scales, classical melodies with piano accompaniment (I also play a bit of piano) you'll discover the endless possibilities of the cello!

Intermediate and Advanced

Ready for the next step? Expand your technique, enrich your musical expression, and discover exciting new repertoire. Whether you're preparing orchestra parts, chamber music, auditions, or solo works, lessons are tailored to your goals and ambitions.

What to expect?

Develop a rich, resonant sound while refining vibrato, thumb position, playing in positions, and advanced bow strokes including spiccato, legato, and staccato.

The cello is one of the most versatile instruments there is. While it has a rich classical tradition, it also has a beautiful place in pop, rock, folk, film music, jazz, and many other genres. Whether you dream of playing Bach, your favourite movie soundtrack, or songs by your favourite artists, lessons are tailored to your musical interests. Together we'll build a solid technique while playing the music that inspires you.

Trial Lesson

A trial lesson is the perfect opportunity to get to know each other. We'll discuss your musical goals, lesson options, scheduling, and location, and you'll experience my teaching approach firsthand. I'd also love to hear you play so I can get an idea of your current level and how I can best help you progress.

I can advise you on choosing the right instrument and help you find a suitable cello to rent or buy.

Lesson Location

My lesson location in Overvecht is very accessible by bike and local transportation (Overvecht station, bus 6,3,1). I also offer cello lessons in Muziekdoosje in De Nijverheid- Zuilen.

Cello Lessons at Your Home Utrecht

If preferred, I can come to you for the cello lessons. Depending on distance and travel time, I may charge travelcosts.

Audition?

Do you wish to get accepted in a Conservatorium for extensive studies and you need a teacher to prepare you for your auditions? Through my lessons we will prepare a high level repertoire for any audition or occasion you need. We will cover Popper and Grutzmacher etudes, as long as Piatti capriccios. Sonatas and concerti of the standard repertoire are also on the list.

Online Lessons

Online lessons are also a possibility, so if you live far away or you are shy to come over, feel free to apply for an online lesson!

About Me

The cello plays a major role in my life. I have a long experience in cello teaching and it is one of my greatest passions.
I received my Bachelor’s degree from Utrechts Conservatorium after four years of practicing and meeting new people and music experiences, in the class of Timora Rosler.

Master and Baroque Cello

After my bachelor’s, I spent a year studying in the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with Olsi Leka as my professor. After finishing the course I decided to go back to Utrecht, where i started my Master course in HKU, in the class of Jeroen den Herder. I graduated with my Masters and completed this beautiful circle of studies. In addition I also studied baroque cello with Viola de Hoog.

Concerts

I play in various avenues around the Netherlands, I am a member in chamber music ensembles and professional free lance cellist in Orchestras.
