Pop Singing and Songwriter Lessons in Rotterdam
Hi! I am Laura van der Voort, singer and singing teacher/vocal coach in Rotterdam. I specialise in pop and light music and enjoy giving singing lessons to children (from age 11), teenagers, and adults.
Your Unique Voice
Your voice is unique and is part of your personality. Together, we will get to know and develop your singing voice. What are the strengths of your voice? What do you find beautiful? How do you want to sound? Improve your microphone technique or prepare for an audition, entrance exam, or final exam?
Move up to the next level
Singing your favourite songs with ease and confidence is something you can learn. Just as you can develop your singing or rapping voice and your own unique sound. Learning to read sheet music, gaining more control over your voice, and being able to sing pure and stable notes are part of the lessons. Singing with more expression and being able to interpret your (own?) lyrics perfectly is the result!
Here's Why
Good vocal technique provides control and freedom. It is wonderful to be able to control your singing voice well across all ranges and to sound exactly how you want. This allows you to focus fully on your emotional expression and your performance. This builds self-confidence and allows you to enjoy singing even more. I have successfully helped many singers fulfill their wishes and realise their ambitions.

What can you expect from the trial lesson?
To get an idea of your voice, I would love to hear you sing. I’ll give you feedback on what we can work on and, of course, on what you are doing well! I am curious about the music you enjoy, and we can look at times when your lessons could take place. I look forward to hearing from you!
Where do I give the lessons?
I have studios at 2 locations in Rotterdam
- Kralingen, Weteringstraat 275 (5 min walk from Gerdesiaweg metrostation)
- Noord, Agniesestraat 55c (10 min walk from Central Station and Hofplein, and various trams stop nearby)
What do you do in a singing lesson?
At the beginning of the lesson, we discuss what you want to work on, so that in addition to basic vocal training, we can zoom in on your goals.
- We start with a warm-up, breathing exercises, and proper singing posture.
- We do fun exercises to strengthen the sound of the voice and make it fuller and richer.
- Personalised instructions to make your singing voice sound free and full, as well as powerful and clear.
- We train the vocal cords with targeted vocal exercises, triads, and scales on various vowels.
- We work on the songs you are currently working on and select new songs for the next lessons.
Applying what you have learned to your song
We apply the learned technique to the songs you have chosen. After all, the goal is for you to be able to sing comfortably without getting hoarse or getting a sore throat! Students usually choose the songs themselves and sing along with YouTube/Spotify, but I can also make suggestions. Additionally, I have a lot of sheet music for well-known songs so that I can accompany you on the piano.

About Me
I studied music vocals at the Rotterdam Conservatory and obtained my diploma as a teaching and performing musician. In my teaching practice, I give lessons in vocal technique, songwriting, and stage presentation. I have given workshops at music schools, to choirs, and to theater groups. I have also taught at the Havo for Music and Dance, the Hofplein Youth Theatre, and the Rotterdam Conservatory.As a singer, I perform domestically and internationally with Soul/Funk bands and on Jazz stages. I am currently working on my new R&B/Urban album featuring my own songs and giving concerts under the artist name Laura D.Rhyme.
