Hi! My name is Johannes Fend. I'm a professional bass player and bass guitar teacher in Schiedam. Are you looking for the first funky bass lessons in your life? Or are you more experienced, looking for ways to develop your improvisation skills and want to move into the next level? My lessons help you learn new styles, slapping, grooves, patterns and all about scales, improvisation and chord progressions

Any music style you want to play is allright with me! Pop, Funk, Blues, Latin, Jazz or maybe World Music? Just come by in my studio and let’s figure out the best way for you to reach your goals! 

Starting out on Bass Guitar?

We use modern methodes and personalised exercises to create a solid technical basis. You'll learn to read music, chord charts, play scales and music theory. It will take some time, of course ,but when you practise at home, you'll soon be able to play along with your favourite playlist!

Take a trial lesson and get acquainted! 

During a trial lesson, you can tell me what kind of music you like and what you would eventually like to be able to do on the bass. I will show and explain to you how I can help you get there. Take your first exercise home, so you can get started right away. During the trial lesson you will also become acquainted with my teaching method.

Where do I teach?

You're welcome at my home studio in Rotterdam Zuid or in Schiedam for targeted exercises, inspiration, clear explanation and personalised instructions.

About Me

I moved to the Netherlands from Austria to study Jazz and classical Music at the Prins Claus Conservatory in Groningen. I graduated with a master degree in Rotterdam.

My Teachers

During my time as a student I was fortunate to get to study and play with musicians out of the New York Jazz scene such as David Berkman, Paul Berner, Matt Wilson, Todd Coolman, Alex Sipiagin and many more.
I took classical bass lessons and participated in master classes with Sorin Orcinschi, Francisco Obieta, Catalin Rotaru, Dorin Marc, Matthew Midgley and Wolfgang Guttler.

Performing Artist

Honestly said, I'm a very active musician and part of various bands. For my solo Project, I won the 2nd Price at the “Il Sole In Cantina Award 2016”. I recived also 1st price at “Leiden Jazz Award 2017” with “Marco Apicella Trio”, the price for the best solist at “Erasmus Jazz Price 2017” and in November 2017 I was invited to play at the international Choro Festival in New York City.
