Ciao! I'm Luciano Poli, a professional jazz bassist, experienced teacher and passionate musician based in Rotterdam and Capelle aan den IJssel. Alongside performing at leading jazz venues across the Netherlands and abroad, I enjoy helping students discover and develop their own musical voice.

Lessons in My Studio or at Your Home

You're welcome in my fully equipped teaching studio in Capelle aan den IJssel, where everything is ready for an inspiring lesson. If it's more convenient, I also teach at students' homes throughout Rotterdam, so you don't have to transport your instrument.

Never played the double bass before? We'll get you started right away. Already have experience? Bring your instrument and play a few pieces. I'll give you practical feedback, discuss your goals and explain how we can work together to help you reach them. You'll leave your very first lesson with new ideas and clear direction.

Pizzicato & Bow Technique

Good technique should always serve the music. We'll explore different pizzicato approaches to find what feels natural for your hands and produces the best sound. If you're interested in classical playing, we'll also focus on arco technique, which is equally valuable for developing beautiful tone and accurate intonation, whatever style you play.

Inspired by the Greats

As a bassist, I'm inspired by musicians who each have their own unique voice. Among my favourites are Jaco Pastorius, Paul Chambers, Christian McBride, Victor Wooten and Ron Carter. Their music continues to inspire my own playing, and my teaching.

About Luciano

I was born in Italy and started playing the double bass at the age of sixteen. In 2004, I moved to the Netherlands to study Jazz Double Bass at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, where I earned both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees.

Today I combine an active performing career with teaching, sharing the knowledge and experience I've gained on stage with students of all ages and levels.
