Hi! I'm Juliane Birkhold, all round pianist and piano teacher in Rotterdam. Have you played the piano long time ago and wish picking up lessons after a break? My piano classes offer the best of classical tuition materials, challenging input and tools to develop your technique and musicality. With personalised exercises, scales, etudes and compositions in the music styles you like best, you'll develop your technique, agility and dexterity. I always pay attention to a relaxed and healthy posture. This will benefit directly to your sound, expression and transfer of your musical ideas. You'll to learn how to practise independently and how to memorise music.

Beginners and Piano

In a positive atmosphere you'll learn to read sheet music, a healthy posture, a solid technique, theory, ear training, and of course  easy pieces on the piano and duets!

A trial piano lesson is a great opportunity for us to get to know each other and see if my lessons are the right fit for you or your child.
During the trial lesson, we’ll talk about your musical background, interests and goals. Whether you’re a complete beginner, returning to the piano after a break, or looking to develop specific skills, we’ll discuss what you would like to achieve and how we can work towards it together. We’ll also look at your musical preferences and find a lesson time that fits your schedule.

• Of course, I would love to hear you play! This gives me an idea of your current level and helps me tailor the lesson to your needs. If you’re a beginner and have never played before, there’s absolutely no need to prepare anything.
• Most importantly, you’ll get a feel for my approach to teaching. I aim to create a relaxed, encouraging and enjoyable environment where you can develop your skills, confidence and love for music at your own pace.
• After the trial lesson, we can discuss how regular lessons could look and decide together whether we’re a good match.

Children and Piano

For the very young beginner I like to discover sound and the possibilities of the piano in a playful way. The lessons offer lots of room for your child's fantasy. Learning to listen, detect and describe sound and music is part of the lessons just as learning to write and read music.

Tales of a Musical Journey

The excellent Tales of a Musical Journey methodology, by the well-known piano pedagogue Irina Gorin, provides a solid basis for playing the most beautiful works from classical and modern piano literature.

Quatre mains

Making music is communicating, listening, sharing and responding. That is why we play together every lesson on the beautiful grand piano in my cosy and attractive classroom in Rotterdam Coolhaven. You develop your technique in a musical way.

Advanced - Classical Piano Repertoire

If you like Schubert, Beethoven, Einaudi or Chopin and would like to be able to play difficult passages more smoothly, regularly and with the right dynamics, You came to the right person. Looking forward to meeting you for a trial lesson!

Tango and Milonga

Tango is one of my favourite music styles! I'll gladly teach you specific techniques how to achieve this typical passionate piano style. You'll learn basic Tango rhythms and accompaniments, the caracteristic strong chords and accentuations, by teaching you some great tango arrangements suitable for your level. Learn about Milonga, Valse, Tango and the history of Tango.

Lesson Location

My home studio is located in Rotterdam Coolhaven. Occasionally lessons in the comfort of your own home can be arranged.

About Juliane Birkhold

I was born in the south of Germany in 1987. My love and interest for music started at very young age because I grew up in a musical environment. Both of my parents are good amateur musicians and all my brothers and sister played instruments. There was always chamber music played in the house, going to concerts, the opera, theater was part of the normal life. Music was just naturally there - like eating and sleeping. When I was 6 I decided that I wanted to start with piano classes, 2 years later I also started to take violin lessons which I continued until I studied music in the Netherlands. At CODARTS in Rotterdam I studied piano at the Tango Department with Wim Warman, Gustavo Beytelmann and Luis Fabiano Rabello.
