Accordion Lessons in The Hague and Rijswijk

Hello, let me introduce myself! I'm Kaat Vanhaverbeke, an enthusiastic and dedicated accordion teacher. I fell in love with the accordion when I was 8 years old. Next to prforming frequently as a professional accordionist, I enjoy teaching to both experienced accordionists and beginners.

Accordion playing for all Ages

Have you always been curious about old accordion at the attic? Would you like to pick up playing again after a break? Are you a more advanced player looking for new repertoire, challenge and inspiration? Well, you've come to the right place!

Beginners

I enjoy delving into the history and technique of the accordion and would love to arouse your interest too! You don't have to be able to read notes yet; together we will go step by step. You'll discover how to handle the accordion in a relaxt way, hand positions and you'll be playing your first tunes in no time!

Intermediate to Advanced

As you get to know your instrument better, we will work on a more extensive repertoire: pieces from different musical periods and genres, polyphonic pieces, with more complex rhythms and chords, etc. We work on personal interpretation and sound production - bellows motion and finger articulation are very important here. Inspired by my master's research on 'bellows movements', I can help you with this like no one else.

What can you expect?

Musical compositions are the guiding principle in the lessons: from there you will build up your technique and learn progressively more. In choosing which music to play, I follow your musical interests. There is a lot of sheet music we can use. Think of Folk music, French chanson, Klezmer, Tango, Classical and Popular music.

Improvisation - Music Theory

You will be given technical exercises regularly to help you progress in playing. Rhythmic games and improvisation are also part of the programme. Music theory is important as a basis for increasing your musical understanding.

Lesson Packs

With the lesson packs of 5 or 10 lessons, you have flexibility and quality! You never forfeit a lesson! Lessons can be given on different days and vary from 30 minutes to an hour.

Button or Key?

There are many different types of accordions: with a piano keyboard, with buttons on both sides, with a converter or without... I myself play button accordion, but have a lot of experience with keyboard accordion! Don't have an instrument yet? Don't hesitate to ask for advice on which accordion suits you best!

Music Lessons for Toddlers (from 5 years old)

Super fun, inspiring and very important to introduce small children to music! It has been scientifically proven that music contributes positively to children's motoric skills, cognitive and emotional development to a great extent.

What to expect?

In my lessons your kid discovers numerous musical elements en fun in music! Presented in a playful way. Of course I'll introduce the accordion, as well as singing and listening to music. Together with a parent, who attends the lessons, we encourage making music at an early age. With musical games, your child will also learn to read notes.

Lesson Location - Trial lesson

You are welcome to get acquainted during a trial lesson: the best way to discuss your musical wishes and get an impression of my teaching style. I give private accordion lessons at my studio in Rijswijk or at my home in The Hague, conveniently located for the city centre and close to Holland Spoor station.

About Me

As an all-round professional accordionist, I perform frequently in concerts and theatre productions. I mainly play classical and contemporary new music and am involved in several ensembles, including the "Spaceship Ensemble", my violin-accordion duo "Vloed" and the "SP!TSBERGEN Ensemble". I started my education at LUCA School of Arts Leuven in Belgium, where I am from. I then completed my master's studies at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague in 2023.
